A woman has died after being stabbed in Mississauga Saturday afternoon, Peel police say.

Around 5:30 p.m. police responded to reports of a disturbance and possible fighting in a parking lot near the St. Elizabeth Seton School in the Glen Erin Drive and Windwood Drive area.

Const. Tyler Bell said a woman was located "suffering from obvious signs of trauma. It was quickly determined that she had been stabbed."

The victim was taken to hospital, Peel paramedics said. She was later pronounced dead.

Bell said a man was taken into custody not far away from the scene.

Police believe the victim and the suspect are known to each other but the nature of that relationship is still under investigation.

"At this point investigators are confident this is an isolated incident," Bell said.
