Loud argument heard before alleged murder in Tampines

[UPDATED 8:15am, 18 December 2014: Added details on suspect]

After allegedly killing a woman, a Chinese national threatened to jump from the ninth-floor of a HDB block.

The 37-year-old suspect eventually climbed back to safety after negotiations with police officers and was arrested, reported The Straits Times.

He was taken to Changi General Hospital on Wednesday morning.

Tenants renting the flat said they had never met the suspect or the victim before.

The Straits Times reported that the suspect and woman arrived at the flat on Tuesday night, and were heard fighting in their room.

The suspect later came out of the room holding a bloody knife, and ran out of the flat.

The tenants also told The Straits Times they would move elsewhere or return to China because they were so affected by the incident.

A bloody trail at Tampines Central 1 Block 503 led to a murder scene on the ninth floor.

The victim was found dead at Tampines Central 1 just after midnight on Wednesday morning (17 Dec).

The man and woman, both Chinese nationals, reportedly rented a unit with others at Block 503. The unit was occupied by 10 other Chinese nationals, said Channel NewsAsia.

A neighbour told The Straits Times she heard a loud argument in Mandarin during the wee hours of the morning.

The suspect fled the scene and was found at Block 505, bleeding profusely.

Eyewitnesses at the crime scene saw blood at the staircase landing, and blood splattered on the ledge of the ninth floor of Block 505.

Cleaners told The New Paper they took three hours to wash the blood off the ledge and floors.
