KUALA LUMPUR: A disabled woman was killed when fire broke out in her unit at the People's Housing Project (PPR) flat in Salak Selatan, here, today.
Rescuers found the charred remains of the 57-year-old victim, identified as Chang Peng Kiew, on the sofa in the living room of her 11th floor unit.
City fire and rescue senior operation commander Armdan Mahat said 80 per cent of Chang's body was burnt.
It was learned that only Chang and her husband lived in the unit. Her husband was at the sundry shop when the incident occur.
Armdan said the Fire and Rescue Department received a distress call at 5pm.
"A team of six firemen from the Tun Razak fire station arrived at the scene 15 minutes later.
Armdan said the fire destroyed the living room but did not spread to neigbouring units.
The forensic team was still at the scene trying to ascertain the cause of fire.
