This woman received an email from her younger self, and it’s incredibly wholesome: ’13 year old you is so supportive’
Ever wonder what it’d be like to hear from your younger self? One woman has a first-hand experience with this, and it’s as wholesome as it can be.
20-year-old Michelle Kidelsky (@michelleskidelsky) took to TikTok to share an email she’d just received from — wait for it — her 13-year-old self.
“So, a couple of days ago I got an email from, I s*** you not, my 13-year-old self,” she starts. “When I was 13, I found this website where you could, like, schedule emails to be sent to yourself in the future. And I wrote, like, a bunch of these little letters to myself… I remember for the last one that I wrote, I closed my eyes and I blindly picked the date that it would be sent on.”
Using futureme.org, the younger Michelle chose for the letter to be sent out seven years into the future, which means she wrote it on March 22, 2016.
“I hope you remember that you are beautiful and awesome, and deserve lots of awesome things.”
“Dear Future Me, hi, did you miss me? It’s me, you! I really like these letters. Maybe this is the last one, or maybe this is the first of many more that will come everyday from now on. Either way, I hope you are very well,” Michelle says. “I am very well, if that makes any difference.”
“I hope you remember that you are beautiful and awesome, and deserve lots of awesome things,” she adds, before asking Michelle if she still wants to be a psychiatrist. (Michelle is currently a communications major.)
“You are smart… or you were, and you can be smart again.”
Younger Michelle then provides some endearingly wise words for her future self.
“If your life has gone horribly wrong, I’m sorry, but your life was awesome at one point,” she continues. “And don’t regret making your life horrible, because at one point, it was everything you wanted.”
“I am proud of you because I know we are capable of great things,” Michelle says. “You are smart… or you were, and you can be smart again.”
The younger Michelle concludes her letter by encouraging Future Michelle “to treat yourself.”
“So, that’s really all I have to say because I am sure you are busy with your life,” she says. “But on my behalf, I would like you to treat yourself to a doughnut of your choice. If you do not treat yourself to this donut, I will be very upset. Just a reminder.”
“I think she’d be really happy that I have a lot of followers on social media.”
Michelle thinks that 13-year-old her would “be pretty happy with 21-year-old me, or almost 21-year-old me.”
“I think she’d be really happy that I have a lot of followers on social media. That would be the big thing that would make her happy,” Michelle reveals. “I don’t know how upset she’d be about me not being a doctor…She knew deep down that we weren’t good at math, so I think she’d forgive me.”

Commenters have pointed out how supportive Michelle’s 13-year-old self was.
“I would cry if I received letters from my younger self,” one TikToker said. “You did a great job back then.”
“The way I would never say something this kind to myself when I was 13… I love this a lot,” another wrote.
“This is incredibly cute,” someone replied. “I love it and I love your 13 year old self. She’s very sweet.”
In response to all of the uplifting comments, Michelle replied, “guys thank you all for being so sweet…13 year old me would be so touched by your kindness.”
Coming-of-age is an oftentimes tumultuous, roller coaster of an emotional experience. The kindness 13-year-old Michelle showed herself is something we can all aspire to — even in adulthood.
