Mary Jo Smith, 47, had almost no contact with her ex-boyfriend, Alan McCutcheon, in about five years, but on Tuesday night, the Pennsylvania woman drove her Jeep to his house, drove through his yard, and nearly ran the man and his family over, state police said.

And, because it is the holiday season, Christmas music was blaring from the car.

McCutcheon told police he was setting up a Christmas light display outside his home in Fayette County, Pennsylvania - in the southwestern part of the state, near West Virginia and Maryland - when Smith made several passes through his yard.

She also yelled "Merry Christmas," authorities said.

Smith allegedly tried to hit McCutcheon's wife and adult daughter. Thankfully, no one was injured, but the joyride caused more than $500 in damages - including tire tracks, and a trail of broken lights and decorations.

“The ex-boyfriend did attempt to make contact with her at one point by coming out of the residence,” Trooper Stefani Lucas of Pennsylvania State Police told CBS Pittsburgh. “At that point, she attempted to drive the vehicle at him. He had to use the tree that was in the yard for cover.”

Another person at the scene who wasn't the ex-boyfriend managed to subdue Smith when she stopped the Jeep, according to Lucas.

Police later arrested Smith, who police say was drunk at the time, and charged her with multiple felonies, including aggravated assault and DUI.

McCutcheon and Smith "really hadn’t had contact in about five years," Lucas said, so it's unclear what, exactly, sparked the incident Tuesday night.
