PUTRAJAYA: The Women Cycling Convoy 2017 made it into the Malaysia Book of Records (MBOR) today for having the largest number of participants in a women’s cycling event, with 11,412 cyclists.
The event was organised by the Federal Territories’ Badan Amal Kasih Ibu, in conjunction with International Women's Day.
The programme was also organised to break the previous record of 3,000 participants in a women’s cycling event.
MBOR deputy general manager Mohamad Alex Edward presented the certificate of recognition to Federal Territories’ Badan Amal Kasih Ibu chairman, Datin Seri Anggraini Sentiyaki.
The programme was launched by Deputy Tourism Minister, Datuk Mas Ermieyati Samsudin.
"Besides breaking the record, this event is also to promote a healthier lifestyle among women.
"We are also delighted to see many participants, from all walks of life, joining this event to show their support for International Women's Day," Mas Ermieyati told reporters at a press conference.
Local artistes such as Janna Nick, Linda Onn, Serina Redzwan and Zahida Rafik made special appearances during the event.
Participants turned up as early as 6am to join the 10km and 25km cycling programme.
