BANGI: Pakatan Harapan's Wong Siew Ki said she is determined to address the abandon projects within the Balakong constituency.
She said finding solution to the issue would be her first priority after winning the by-election today.
Wong won with a majority of 18,533. She secured 22,508 votes while MCA's Tan Chee Teong garnered 3,975 votes.
“I will look into all the abandon projects or projects that have yet to be granted approval by the late Eddie Ng Tien Chee.
“I will make sure that all the projects will go on as planned,” she said.
On her win, Wong thanked Balakong voters who came out to cast their votes today.
“This victory is for all the people in Balakong constituency.”
On her schedule tomorrow, Wong said she would visit several areas in the constituency to celebrate the victory with the voters.
“My struggle (perjuangan) has just started. I will work hard for the next five years.”
Asked on low voter turnout, Wong said she believed it was due to several factors.
“Some of the voters might have gone for holiday, following the long weekend.”
The by-election was held following Ng's death in an accident at KM11.7 of the Grand Saga Highway on July 20.
Ng had retained his Balakong seat for the second term after defeating Lim Chin Wah of Barisan Nasional and Mohamad Ibrahim Ghazali of Pas with a 35,538-vote majority in the general election. © New Straits Times Press (M) Bhd
