KOTA KINABALU: A maintenance worker was killed after he slipped and fell from the 14th floor of a condominium while conducting maintenance work at Kampung Nounton, here.

Thirty-five-year-old Wong Vee Au, a building maintenance contract supervisor, was alone at the scene during the 2.30pm incident yesterday.

“There were three workers doing renovation works nearby who heard a screaming sound, as if someone was falling.

“Upon checking, they saw a body lying on the floor of level-3A of the building,” said Acting District police chief Superintendent George Abd Rakman.

An ambulance was called, but medical personnel later pronounced him dead at the scene.

Wong’s body was sent to the Queen Elizabeth hospital for a post-mortem.

Initial investigation found a tin of paint on the l4th floor, which the victim may have been standing on. Police are entertaining the possibility that he lost his balance and fell.

“There were no signs of a struggle, or suspicious elements at the scene, nor were external wounds found on the body.

“Police have classified the case as sudden death and will continue investigations,” George added.
