Workers quarters go up in smoke at Kinabatangan plantation

KINABATANGAN: Six workers quarters at an oil palm plantation here were razed to the ground in a fire on Sunday night.

Firefighters took two hours to reach the site at Jalan Sukau, located 72 kilometres from the district fire and rescue station, after receiving a distress call at 7.54pm.

“We dispatched one fire engine with seven firefighters.

“The quarters were already up in flames by the time the team arrived.

“Firefighters managed to contain the fire at 9.58pm before putting it out completely,” said fire and rescue operation officer Rosemidian Majid, who led the team.

No casualties were reported in the incident. The department is investigating the cause of the fire.
