A bookstore in Sao Paulo has been crowned "Best Retail Interior of 2014" at the Inside Awards during the World Festival of Interiors.

Designed by studio mk27, the Cultura Bookstore is a modern version of the traditional bookshop, adapted for socialising, reading, relaxing, purchasing and hosting events.

A further four category winners were also announced during the awards.

The IDC Space research facility based at Singapore University of Technology and Design won the Display category for a futuristic exhibition area featuring a ceiling installation made up of 6000 custom-designed lights.

The studio also took home a second title in the Bars and Restaurant category for its Hong Kong venue MOTT32, a space combining an industrial New York aesthetic with classical Chinese décor which uses old Chinese propaganda as additional accessories.

The title of "Best Interior" in the Hotels category was claimed by Tama Hotel Phnom Penh Tower for its "youthful energy" incorporating breakout work areas and cozy comforts for business travelers.

The remaining four category winners will be announced on October 2, before an overall "World Interior of the Year" is named on October 3.
