The world's best on-time airlines in January

If the on-time arrival performance of an airline is something you consider important when choosing a flight - especially if you are on a business trip - then you might want to check the latest report from FlightStats.

The FlightStats Airline On-time Performance Report compares the on-time arrival performance of major, regional and low-cost airlines around the world, selected based on a combination of factors, including scheduled flights (only airlines with more than 2,000 scheduled flights per month were considered), capacity and route network, tracking coverage (only airlines for which FlightStats successfully tracked the gate arrival times of more than 60 percent were included), and a geographical factor (an airline’s home country was used to determine this).

The term "on-time" was defined as the percentage of completed flights that arrived at the gate within less than 15 minutes of the scheduled gate arrival time.

According to the report, Spain's flag carrier and largest airline Iberia and New Zealand's flag carrier Air New Zealand were highlighted for strong on-time performances in January 2015.

Among the full-service airlines, two low-cost carriers -- AirAsia and Jetstar -- were also prominent; suggesting they both offered more than simply an affordable fare for their passengers.
