The World's Last Blockbuster Store Is Available to Rent on Airbnb for the Ultimate '90s Sleepover

From House Beautiful

Picture this: The year is 2000 and you just left school (or the office) for the weekend. Before you head home, you swing by the local Blockbuster to pick up a few VHS tapes to indulge in. You ask the employees for movie recommendations and snag a few yummy snacks by the register before heading out. A few days later, you return your stack of now-watched movies, check out a few more, and so on.

Fast forward to 2020 and we can instantly stream thousands of titles at our leisure. Stores like Blockbuster and Hollywood Video are a distant memory. Well, except for the folks of Bend, Oregon.

Currently, there is only one Blockbuster left in the world. Located in Bend, Oregon, the establishment is run by store manager Sandi Harding, who has effortlessly worked to preserve the brand's legacy in this fast-changing digital landscape. Her store continues to thrive, even in a pandemic. Recently, she even took to Facebook to express her gratitude for the overwhelming support the store has received — and calling for volunteers to help her process orders. Now, as a special thanks to all her loyal customers, she has decided to list the store on Airbnb for three one-night stays allowing fans to relive that iconic Friday night tradition.

Starting on August 17 at 1 p.m. PST, the listing will become available to book here and will only be open to Deschutes County residents. Each party will be limited to four guests and will be treated to a 90s-themed movie sleepover in the actual store. A cozy living room with a pullout bed has been added to make the store feel like home.

This unique opportunity will take place on September 18, 19, and 20. Best of all, since a movie rental costs $3.99, the stay will only cost $4 a night (Airbnb listings have to be in full dollar amounts). Harding will be the host and guests are expected to follow COVID-19 guidelines.

Although this opportunity is only open to local residents, Harding will also allow customers from all over to come to check out the living room space that has been specially created for this opportunity. Not to mention, the store also has a Callogorithm line at +1 (541) 385-9111. Movie lovers can call the number to speak to a Blockbuster employee and receive tailored movie recommendations.

You can also shop their online store here — the merchandise is iconic!
