WP's Yaw Shin Leong resigns as party treasurer

Workers' Party's (WP) Yaw Shin Leong has resigned as party treasurer on Tuesday.

According to a WP statement, the party's Executive Council accepted Yaw's resignation from the party leadership at their monthly meeting.

He will cease as party treasurer with immediate effect.

"The Council has also decided to appoint the deputy treasurer, Yee Jenn Jong, as the party’s treasurer," said WP.

The party added that Yaw will be focusing on his responsibilities as Hougang's MP.

"The Workers’ Party assures residents of Hougang of the Party’s commitment to the constituency and to supporting the work of their Member of Parliament," added WP.

Yaw, 35, was recently embroiled in an online storm over rumours of an extra-marital affair with a married female opposition party member.

He has since declined to respond to the allegations.
