X Japan's Yoshiki apologises for dinner with Jackie Chan

19 Jun – Yoshiki, the drummer of Japanese band X Japan, has recently apologised for sparking the wrath of netizens with his photo of a meeting with Jackie Chan.

As reported on Mingpao, the drummer, who was in Taiwan recently, shared a photo of him at a restaurant with the action star, who was also in Taipei to promote his new album. He captioned it, "Wonderful dinner with Jackie Chan."

However, the photo only drew ire from many fans, who blasted Yoshiki for sitting down with a "supporter of dictatorship" rather than meeting with Taiwanese president Tsai Ing-wen.

Others also took a shot at Jackie in the comments, slamming him for feigning ignorance about the recent protest that was happening in Hong Kong.

Following the backlash, Yoshiki recently tweeted a short message that read, "Dear fans, if any of my posts causes everyone... I am sorry that I have not considered the current situation. I really care about all my fans and friends, I love you."

Yoshiki was not the only celebrity who sparked the anger of netizens for taking a photo with Jackie. Taiwanese multi-hyphenate Jay Chou also bore the brunt of fans' anger after sharing a photo of him having tea with the action star during the latter's visit to Taiwan.
