X10 Esports win VCT SEA Stage 2 Finals, to rep region in Reykjavik
X10 Esports dominated FULL SENSE, 3-1, in the all-Thai grand finals of the VALORANT Champions Tour (VCT) Stage 2 Challengers Final for Southeast Asia on Sunday (2 May) to become the region's representative in the VCT Stage 2 Masters Reykjavik.
X10 Esports were one of the favourites coming into the Stage 2 Finals for Southeast Asia after they won the Stage 1 Finals in March.
The Thai team outlasted some of the best teams in the region on their way to the finals, including CBT Gaming from Taiwan, 6045 Pirates from the Philippines, and Paper Rex from the Singapore.
Meanwhile, FULL SENSE, the second Thai team in the tournament, had to take the long way to face their countrymen for the right to go to Iceland.
After losing to Paper Rex in the upper bracket quarterfinals and getting knocked down to the lower bracket, FULL SENSE went on a warpath and eliminated BOOM Esports, 6045 Pirates, and Team nxl on their way to the lower bracket finals against Paper Rex. FULL SENSE then outlasted the Singaporeans in a heated three-game series to earn the right to challenge X10 Esports.
Game one of the finals in Ascent started out as a tightly-contested affair, as X10 Esports entered halftime with a 7-5 lead. However, they came out guns blazing after the side switch and went on a 6-1 run over FULL SENSE in the second half to take the first game of the series.
X10 Esports carried their momentum from game one onto game two in Icebox, where they dominated the first half to the tune of a 10-2 lead by halftime. But FULL SENSE were able to rally after the side switch and go on a 6-2 run to get on the verge of mounting a comeback with the score at 12-10 by Round 23.
However, X10's 17-year old prodigy, Patiphan "Patiphan" Chaiwong, denied FULL SENSE a chance at a comeback by getting an insane Quad Kill that sealed game two for his team.
X10 Esports smelled blood in the water and got off to a 6-0 start in game three at Bind. FULL SENSE rallied to win four-straight rounds but it wasn't enough to stop their opponents from still closing out the first half in control with a 8-4 lead.
FULL SENSE rallied again after the side switch, tying the score at 9-9 by Round 18 and getting on the verge of another comeback by Round 23 with a 12-11 lead. While Patiphan was able to score another incredible Quad Kill to force Overtime, FULL SENSE closed X10 Esports after 28 rounds, 15-13, to steal the map away.
X10 Esports quickly shook off their loss in game three by getting another great start in game four at Haven, ending the first half in control with a 8-4 lead. While FULL SENSE were able to win the first two rounds after the side switch, X10 Esports dominated four-straight rounds to get to match point. FULL SENSE win three more rounds, but X10 Esports finally closed out their opponents on Round 22 to claim the series and punch their ticket to Iceland.
With their victory, X10 Esports claimed the grand prize of US$15,000 and the all-important spot in the VCT Stage 2 Masters Reykjavik, the first-ever offline VALORANT tournament to feature international competition. Meanwhile, FULL SENSE go home with US$10,000 and 60 VCT Points in consolation.
X10 will now join nine other teams from North America, Latin America, Brazil, Europe, Japan, and South Korea in Iceland for the VCT Stage 2 Masters Reykjavik, which will be held from 24 to 30 May.
