XL Gives Away First Nano SIM Cards in Indonesia, Ready For iPhone 5 in October

Indonesian telco XL has become the first operator in Indonesia to give away nano SIM cards in the country. Of course, the new iPhone 5 only uses nano SIM cards, and unlike previous microSIMs it cannot be obtained by just manually cutting your card. 70 Nano SIM cards were given away to selected XL subscribers while another 30 were given to the ‘Indonesian iPhone community’ (@idiphone).

IndoTelko cites Selfie Dewiyanti, the GM of product acquisition at XL, as saying today that the nano SIM cards will be ready for the public in mid October. The cards will be available at XL Centers located in the Indonesian cities of Jakarta, Bandung, Surabaya, Medan, and Makassar.

For the first phase, there will be around 5,000 nano SIM cards ready to either be bought or exchanged with the normal XL SIM cards. Each nano SIM card will cost IDR 3,000 (30 US cents). Other Indonesian telcos - Indosat, Telkomsel, and Axis - also plan to sell nano SIM cards very very soon.
