KOTA KINABALU: Families and friends of murdered teen Yaacob Nasran hold a memorial gathering at the crime scene outside Asia City here today as the tragedy that occurred in December 15, last year entered 100th day.

Yaacob's father, Nasran Harun @ Nigel and the victim's 19-year-old brother Nabiel, who was with him during the attack, led the group by laying flowers and lighting candles outside the pub.

Yesterday, a tahlil ceremony was held at the family's residence in Tanjung Aru.

The case gained prominence when Yaacob, Nabiel and a group of friends tried to intervene in an argument between a couple outside the pub but ended up being attacked by a group of sword-wielding men.

Yaacob died at the scene due to slash wounds. A pub bouncer Mohd Azmin Lidin has been charged on Dec 23 with the murder of the 18-year-old. April 11 has been set as re-mention for the case.

"Yaacob walks besides us everyday, unseen and unheard but still missed.

"Despite him being taken away from us so soon, he had made a lasting impact on everyone he had crossed paths with," said Nasrun during the ceremony which started at 6pm and lasted about 40 minutes. Nabiel and two other friends also took to the stage to say a few words about the victim.

"The loss is just too much to bear... What I hope now is that justice will be served." said the victim's mother, Kee Faridah Kassim.
