At least one million users of Yahoo! Mail may have lost access to their accounts earlier this week, even as Yahoo! Mail said that the problem has already been resolved.
Senior product manager Stephanie Shum assured users that Yahoo engineers have already isolated the root cause of the "temporary outage" and restored service.
"We have isolated the root causes of the problem and have restored service. No email data was lost or at risk... We understand that being denied access to your email is extremely frustrating. We are taking steps to prevent this kind of outage in the future," she said in a blog post.
She said that some users were hit by the service outage at around 7:30 a.m. Thursday, and that the outage was at its worst at 11 a.m.
"About one million users were unable to access their email (at that time)," she said.
An article in PC Magazine quoted a Yahoo! spokesperson as saying oFriday afternoon that the Yahoo! Mail service was inaccessible "to a small percentage of our users."
"We know that this may have caused some inconvenience and we apologize to our users who were affected," it quoted the spokesperson as saying.
The PCMag article noted that, in February, Yahoo! Mail synchronization was blamed for causing data glitches on Windows Phone 7 devices.
Also, certain users of Microsoft's mobile platform were overcharged for data that they did not consume. — TJD, GMA News
