Yahoo Poll: Do drones pose a security threat to Singapore?

Consumer-grade drones – those that are freely available in retail stores – already come under Singapore regulations to ensure their safe operation. This means they are not to be flown above crowds of people, within restricted airspace or security-sensitive locations, nor anywhere near an airport or airbase.

They are also governed by weight limits and height restrictions.

Recently, however, drones have entered the news by supposedly being used in an attempt against Venezuelan president Nicolas Maduro’s life – the latest in a string of mischievous uses for drones.

On the other hand, drone proponents say they do more good than harm – and indeed, they have the potential to be used in more benign ways.

Given these varying views, should we be worried about such things happening in Singapore? Have your say in our poll, and leave a comment if you envision other scenarios.
