A woman took to Facebook to complain that her neighbour at her Woodlands HDB block had been burning joss paper offerings in the common corridor and, worse, had been sweeping dust onto her doorstep.

The netizen was peeved because she claimed to have raised the issue to the police, environment and housing authorities, and even the People’s Association, without any action being taken.

Either way, the hazard of the open flame and the adverse health effects of the smoke and ash are downright un-neighbourly – and burning ideally should take place downstairs in the designated area.

Act of religious devotion, or anti-social act? Should the authorities be more vigilant in enforcing such indiscriminate burning in HDB blocks? Have your say in our poll and leave a comment below.
