The chairman of the Government Parliamentary Committee for transport, Sitoh Yih Pin, said on Wednesday (19 September) that Singaporeans have taken to the idea of a car-light society.

So much so, the Potong Pasir MP said, that it has become “fashionable” among young adults to not own or drive a car. “Walk, Cycle and Ride has very much become a part of the lives of many Singaporeans,” Sitoh said, adding: “In fact, especially when you talk to the young, it appears to me that it is becoming very fashionable not to drive so much – maybe not even to own a car.”

Indeed, Certificate of Entitlement prices have been falling, with the Category A price dipping below $30,000 – suggesting falling demand for cars in Singapore.
