A recent story of a Singapore Grab driver who drove for 24 hours straight – thereby supposedly earning S$912 in one day – has gotten people wondering: Should private hire vehicle (PHV) drivers be allowed on the road for such a long time without rest?

It’s clear that driving without enough rest is a hazard – researchers say roughly 1 in 10 crashes is due to drowsy driving.

On the other hand, it could be argued that a) the Grab driver in question did this as a one-off challenge to himself, and does not recommend pulling such a stunt; and b) the vast majority of drivers are probably sensible enough not to do so.

In your view, do you feel that PHV driving need yet more legislation, or is common sense and existing laws enough? Have your say in our poll, and leave a comment below if you have other ideas.
