A public health specialist from the United Kingdom says motor vehicles in Singapore are going too fast, and suggested that the speed limit of all non-expressway roads be reduced to 30kmh.

The suggestion provoked robust reactions from Singapore netizens, many of whom were against the idea – no doubt because sometimes even the current 50kmh limit feels slow (and possibly also because she’s a foreigner).

Optimising safety is always a good idea, though, and many netizens likewise also opined that there are far too many reckless drivers on the roads – but stopped short of agreeing with such a low blanket speed limit.

What do you think? Should Singapore lower the non-highway speed limit to 30kmh as has been suggested? Have your say in our poll and leave a comment below.
