Yemeni student arrested over cannabis possession

IPOH, Feb 17 ― A Yemeni student was detained by the police for possessing 15 grams worth of cannabis at a house in Bandar Universiti in Seri Iskandar yesterday.

Perak Tengah District Police Chief Superintendent Mohamad Zainal Abdullah said that the 26-year-old suspect is a final year chemical engineering student at a private university in Seri Iskandar.

“Police raided a house in Bandar Universiti at around 1.35pm on Friday and arrested the suspect.

“Upon checking, police seized a cigarette box which contains one plastic packet of dried compressed leaves and a cigarette roll containing cannabis,” he said in a WhatsApp message.

Mohamad Zainal added police also seized a red colour device which is believed to be a tool to grind the cannabis leaves.

Mohamad Zainal also said the suspect tested positive for drug and has no prior criminal records.

The case is being investigated under Section of 6 and 15 (1) (a) of the Dangerous Drug Act 1952 for restriction of possession of raw opium, coca leaves, poppy-straw and cannabis, and for consuming a dangerous drug.
