From ELLE Decor

She stole the show at the 2018 Kips Bay Decorator Show House, transforming an uninspiring white staircase into an energetic, patterned-filled space informed by the '80s Memphis Design Movement. Last year, she carried that same daring aesthetic to Milan Design Week, teaming up with Versace Home and artist Andy Dixon on a standout neon-tinged installation. And as if that wasn't enough, just in time for the recent holiday season, she helped this very brand unveil the ELLE Decor Café at the Plaza hotel, which is open until March 31.

Bikoff completely reimagined the Plaza hotel's iconic Rose Club in an effort to pay homage to its jazz roots (everyone from Billie Holiday to Liza Minnelli performed there). The New York City native put her passion for color and pattern on full display by outfitting the space with her lavender Uptown Toile fabric from her collaboration with Vervain. "The fabric that was in the space prior was a damask, so my fabric, which is a fun take on an 18th century French toile, goes with the whole idea of a European old world elegance," Bikoff says. "That said, the toile is also really cheeky, with a scene of a Brigitte Bardot-esque woman walking down 5th ave with two poodles. That was my fun ode to the jazzy, party space. The pattern makes a connection to the Plaza and what it stands for.”

Now Bikoff's entire collection with Vervain, including her Uptown Toile and a slew of other whimsical fabrics and wallcoverings, is officially available. Equal parts playful and quirky, the collection showcases Bikoff's appreciation for a myriad of personal interests, from architecture and fine arts to beauty and fashion. There's a Brigitte Bardot-inspired toile, a luxe pink velvet that's reminiscent of her favorite lipgloss, and even an inky textile that resembles crushed diamonds against a striking black night sky—her take on a custom coat purchased on a trip to Paris four years ago. The line even draws inspiration from Salvador Dali’s iconic Lips sofa, Ettore Sottsass’s neon mirror, and Ferragamo’s Rainbow Platform shoes.

When asked about her refreshing approach to fabric, Bikoff noted it's a key element in any design scheme. “Fabric is the beginning stage and the most important ingredient of any creation,” she says. "It might as well have a little spice."
