Young girl's horrific ordeal revealed in court

Alone, lost and naked, a 16-year-old who was molested sought help for over an hour before being rescued by a taxi driver.

The girl's terrifying ordeal, which took place 15 years ago, was revealed in court after her molester, 58-year-old Tan Leng Hwa pled guilty to his crime on Tuesday.

He said that in 1996, he took the 16-year-old girl to meet his friends but instead drove her to a forested area along Mandai Road, reported The Straits Times.

After they reached the area, Tan asked the girl to be his girlfriend but she rejected his proposal. He then snatched her spectacles, took off her clothes and groped her. Naked and unable to see clearly, the girl managed to flee into the bushes, the paper reported.

The girl hid in the forested area totally naked and came out only when Tan drove off. Unable to find her clothes, the girl covered herself with pieces of discarded newspaper and ran to the main road to flag cars for help.

Later, she sought help at a gate of a nearby army camp but the gate was unmanned. The girl managed to get help from a taxi driver more than an hour later.

Tan turned himself in 16 days later and was charged in court in March 1997. He skipped bail two months later and went into hiding, the paper said.

He was arrested in January 2010 in Malaysia after participating in a kidnapping incident with three other Malaysians. He was later extradited to Singapore in July 2011 where he was charged for other offences.

Tan was sentenced to four years' jail for molest and two months for going into hiding.
