Younger ministers to ‘take over more responsibility for governing Singapore’: PM Lee Hsien Loong
Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong said younger ministers will progressively take over more responsibility for governing Singapore after he unveiled his “more extensive than usual” Cabinet reshuffle on Tuesday (24 April).
In a post on his Facebook page, Lee said that he has decided to “stretch the younger ones” by giving many of them two ministries and more responsibilities. After the reshuffle, the younger ministers will head two thirds of the ministries except for Transport, Health, Defence, Home Affairs and Law, he pointed out.
“The leadership transition taking place in the next few years is well underway,” Lee added.
Among the younger ministers who will be assuming new roles as head of various ministries are Chan Chun Sing, 48, who will be the Minister for Trade and Industry; S Iswaran, 55, who will be Minister for Communications and Information and Minister-in-charge of Trade Relations; Ong Ye Kung, 48, who will be Minister for Education, and Josephine Teo, 49, who will be Manpower Minister and continue as Second Minister for Home Affairs.
