Zahid brushes off speculations sensationalising Hishammuddin's new role

KUALA LUMPUR: Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi is unperturbed by games the opposition play in sensationalising the appointment of Defence Minister Datuk Seri Hishammudin Hussein as Special Functions Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department.

Zahid said it was the opposition’s job to continuously criticise the government and rarely would they praise steps taken by the government.

“We will keep doing our job. We have to be sincere when a duty has been given to us and we have to carry it out the best we can.

“I do not pay any attention to issues such as this. I carry out responsibilities and so long as I do no wrong to Allah or the law and ethics, let them talk all they want,” he said during a press conference today after giving a lecture at the Intan Public Policy Ministerial Forum Series.

Hishammuddin was appointed Special Functions Minister on Wednesday, leading to a surge of speculations from the opposition, claiming that this was Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s move to oust Zahid and have Hishammuddin next in line.
