SUBANG JAYA: The Malaysian embassy in Pyongyang remains open, Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said today.
He said that the government has no intention of cutting diplomatic ties with North Korea, therefore the relationship status between both countries remains.
“We will not shut down our embassy there and I hope they will not close theirs here,” Zahid told reporters after chairing the Malaysian Crime Prevention Foundation (MCPF) 24th annual general meeting and executive council meeting.
Yesterday nine Malaysians, consisting of three embassy staff and their respective family members had safely arrived from Pyongyang at 5.03am.
They were earlier barred from leaving North Korea following a spat between the two countries.
