New Zealand students stage climate change protest

STORY: Led by the Fridays For Future student movement, young protesters in New Zealand chanted slogans and held up signs reading, "This is my social studies lesson" and "I stand for what I stand on".

"If anybody tells you that your voice doesn't count and that you're too young to make a difference, do not believe them. It is because of young people that we even have the Zero Carbon Act in this country, that's because of you and people like you all around the country," Green Party leader James Shaw told the crowd, and was met with loud cheers and applause.

Apart from Wellington, other New Zealand cities including Auckland, Christchurch and New Plymouth will hold demonstrations, marches and rallies to draw attention to global warming and demand action from leaders.

Similar protests are set to be held in South Korea, Britain and Brazil.
