Zee Avi sings "OlaBola" theme song

23 Nov – If you've been tuning in to the radio today, you may have heard the newly-released theme song to director Chiu Keng Guan's upcoming movie, "OlaBola".
Called "Arena Cahaya", it is sung by none other than U.S.-based Sarawakian-born singer-songwriter Zee Avi, who co-produced the song along with fellow U.S.-based singer Rendra Zawawi.
"The song is written in two languages, Malay and English, to reflect a country like Malaysia that is made up of diverse cultures," said Zee in a statement.
"It is my sincere hope that through this song, Malaysians will be brought together by what unites us in harmony, and be reminded of the moments when we fought against all odds towards a common goal." Zee not only sung and played the guitar but was also involved in the music arrangement. The song managed to capture the movie's spirit perfectly that Chiu approved it without any alteration to the music or lyrics.
The 30-year-old revealed that she was contacted by the director through Facebook chat to sing the song. She then returned to Kuala Lumpur to meet Chiu and came up with the song after watching snippets of the movie.
The upcoming football-themed movie will be Chiu's first feature after the record-breaking 2014 movie "The Journey", which was the highest-grossing local movie in Malaysia prior to being taken over by Ghaz Abu Bakar's "Polis Evo".
Set in the 1970s, "OlaBola" follows a multicultural team of Malaysian footballers struggling to overcome personal and collective hardships together as a team and create the most triumphant zero to hero story.
"OlaBola" will meet football and movie fans in cinemas sometime in early 2016.
