16 Oct – Making her comeback to television through the small screen adaptation of Mo Yan's "Red Sorghum", Zhou Xun expressed her hopes that the original cast and director of the 1987 film will be watching it as well.
Mingpao News reported that the actress, who attended the premiere of "Red Sorghum" recently, stated that she had no intention to challenge Gong Li's original portrayal of the character Jiu Er.
"Comparisons are inevitable, but I think movies and television itself are different from each other," said Zhou. "It has a different format and different capacities."
She added, "I hope that [original stars] Gong Li, Jiang Wen, and [director] Zhang Yimou will see it and like it."
Regarding her comeback to television after more than 10 years, Zhou said that she decided to return not only because of the script and the role, but also due to the fast-paced filming, which suited her very much.
