5 new Japanese restaurants to try in Jakarta

With more than 1,200 Japanese restaurants available in Jakarta, it shouldn't be that hard to find one that suits your palate.

But if you are looking to try new eateries serving fresh and delectable Japanese dishes, here are five that you can consider when visiting in the capital city.

KOBE by Shabu Shabu House
Available at Pondok Indah Mall's Street Gallery in South Jakarta, this buffet restaurant offers a huge area convenient for catering to family dinners, or perhaps for larger gatherings.

Up to nine different soup bases are available for guests to choose from to go with their shabu-shabu servings.

Like any other buffet restaurant, dining on weekdays is more affordable with a starting price of Rp 149,000 for the Regular Package, while on weekends the price is set at Rp 177,000.

Itacho Sushi
Founded by Ricky Cheng, who started his career in 1986 as a sushi apprentice in Japan, Itacho Sushi is set to serve local foodies with a taste of genuine Japanese food, especially fresh sashimi and sushi, with prices ranging from Rp 20,000 (US$1.54) to Rp 1 million.

Available at the Grand Indonesia shopping mall in Central Jakarta, it offers a sushi bar as well as cozy sofas and a warm interior adorned with a mix of cream, gold and brown colors.

Kamiya
Nestled inside the JS Luwansa Hotel on Jl. HR Rasuna Said, South Jakarta, Kamiya offers a convenient setting for business meetings, thanks to its several choices of private rooms.

With must-try dishes including shabu-shabu and sukiyaki, it offers up to 27 a la carte menu items for guests to try, with prices starting from Rp 10,000 and going up to Rp 150,000. The shabu-shabu and sukiyaki are each available at Rp 198,000.

Abura Soba Yamatoten
Having originated in Tokyo, Abura Soba Yamatoten focuses on serving high quality dishes at an affordable price. Its main dish is dry noodles with popular menu items including Karami Ontama Abura Soba (priced at Rp 68,000), Jya Jya Abura Soba (Rp 68,000) and Abura Soba (Rp 59,000).

Interested customers can find this particular eatery at Ruko Garden House, Pantai Indah Kapuk, North Jakarta.

Roba Yakitori
Recently opened in Mall Taman Anggrek in West Jakarta, Roba Yakitori is a Japanese restaurant brought by the Pancious Group. The term “yakitori” itself is commonly regarded as meaning Japanese skewered chicken, or skewered food in general.

Set in a homey wood-colored setting that can accommodate up to 75 guests, the eatery offers various choices on its menu with prices ranging from RP 15,000 to Rp 35,000. Its recommended dishes include Chicken Leg Miso, Beef Enoki Teriyaki, Beef Asparagus Teriyaki and Beef Tenderloin Garlic Mirin.
