Foreign Minister George Yeo said on Monday it was "hard work" clearing out his office of seven years at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Tanglin.

After he posted the comment on Facebook, several hundred fans expressed their support, sympathy and thanks to the outgoing minister.

As requested by supporters, he then posted on the site a photo of himself sitting in his office surrounded by boxes of files, paintings and other items.

Minister Yeo earlier announced he was leaving politics and would not be contesting again in the Aljunied group representation constituency (GRC) in the next General Election (GE) after his People's Action Party (PAP) team lost to the slate of the Workers' Party.

He brings to a close a 23-year political career in which he has held posts in the Ministries of Information and the Arts, Health, Trade and Industry, and Finance.

Other members of the PAP team that contested Aljunied GRC -- Minister in the Prime Minister's Office Lim Hwee Hua and Senior Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Zainul Abidin Rasheed -- are also expected to clear out their offices this week.
