SM Goh confirms former SAF general to be understudy

Senior Minister Goh Chok Tong has confirmed that a Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) general will understudy him at Marine Parade GRC.

SM Goh revealed this in his status update on Marine Parade's Facebook page, MParader.

Two SAF generals stepped down last week and they are expected to be fielded as PAP candidates in the coming General Election. They are former Chief of Army, Major-General Chan Chun Sing, and Brigadier-General Tan Chuan Jin.

According to local media, BG Tan is widely expected to be fielded at Marine Parade GRC, to replace Dr Ong Seh Hong who will be retiring.

Last week, SM Goh announced on MParader of his GE plans and said, "In this General Election (GE), I am planning for someone to succeed me in leading the GRC one day. I have asked PM (Lee Hsien Loong) to send me a strong candidate who has the potential to be part of the fourth gen core team."

SM Goh has served at Marine Parade GRC for the past 35 years. The GRC has seen walkovers for the past three elections.
