COMEX Preview: Some gadgets to look out for!

Today marks the start of COMEX 2011, and like every COMEX show that preceded this year's, brands and manufacturers are trying to elbow each other out with deals, deals and more deals!

We don't know the full extent of the promotions that will be present at COMEX yet, but here is a short list of gadgets that you must check out if you count yourself an aficionado. Of course, we'll be on site tomorrow to sniff out the best deals, so keep your eye on Tech Talk!

Xbox 360 trade-in offer

Got an old console that you're just looking for an excuse to get rid of? (As if. Excuses, schmuses.) Microsoft hears your pain, and will be offering a comprehensive trade-in promotion for your old consoles so you can get a spanking new Xbox 360.

You can trade in a working PSP 3000 with batteries for S$80, a Nintendo Wii for S$120 or even a GameBoy Colour for S$5 to contribute towards your new Xbox 360 purchase. On top of those, trading in an old Xbox 360 console will land you an additional 1600 Xbox Live points worth $33.

Here's the full list of consoles you can trade-in, and their respective prices:

HP TouchPad

Yes, we know, it suffered an untimely death and all, but the TouchPad has been confirmed to be on sale at COMEX. HP has revealed that the 16GB and 32GB TouchPad will be going for S$126 and S$201 respectively (GST included), and you can have a tablet for couch surfing and casual use at home for a low, low price. Plus, with news that HP might indeed continue updating the TouchPad, the tablet might live to die another day. However, you'll have to act fast, as HP has decided that it will only sell 100 units a day, and each buyer will be limited to only one TouchPad. Oh, and get ready to fatten up that wallet, as the TouchPad will be sold on cash terms only.

ASUS Eee Pad Slider & Acer Iconia Tab A100

The 10.1-inch ASUS Eee Pad Slider will make its Singapore debut at COMEX, and will run Android 3.0 Honeycomb on a dual-core processor and 16GB of internal storage. Unfortunately, it is WiFi-only for now. Although it might feel chunkier than other tablets on the market, the Eee Pad Slider comes with an integrated slide-out keyboard, the first-of-its-kind, and could prove to be a useful productivity feature. It will be going at a recommended retail price of S$799.

Also making its debut is the Acer Iconia Tab A100, the first mainstream 7-inch Honeycomb tablet. It runs the latest and greatest Android 3.2 Honeycomb operating system and packs HDMI and USB ports. Although it's not the sleekest of tablets, it's likely to be inexpensive judging by Acer's product pricing strategy.

Sony Alpha NEX-C3

Mirrorless interchangeable lenses cameras are getting better with each new model, and Sony's latest entry into the market is a formidable contender. Packing excellent image quality and superior low-light performance into a tiny package, the NEX-C3 is a good entry-level camera for beginners who don't want to buy a more powerful DSLR yet, especially with the attractive recommended retail price of S$1,099 (camera body and twin lens kit). In addition, Sony went to great lengths to simplify the user-interface and camera jargon so beginners can pick it up easily. And with the ability to play around with different lenses, this is an ideal camera for budding photographers.

Seagate GoFlex home network storage

Remember the days when you have to shell out a bomb for external storage drives, let along home network drives? Thankfully those days are gone, and Seagate is ready to affirm that with its affordable GoFlex home network drive. Starting at S$139 for a 1TB drive to S$299 for a 3TB one, get ready to make room for your family media's new best friend. What's more, Seagate is conducting a special draw at its booth with a free Xbox 360 with Kinect as the prize, so this is a must-visit!

Lexmark E260dn

Lexmark isn't a brand that comes to mind immediately these days, having fallen behind in consumers' mind share. But with its E260dn mono-laser printer going for S$179, down from S$359, we can't help but sit up and take notice. The printer offers quick, intuitive set-up and configuration with a user-friendly operator panel, and also features an Eco-Mode and an instant warm-up fuser to save paper and energy. Coupled with a 3-year warranty that offers a 1-for-1 printer replacement, this is surely a star buy!

And more!

We'll be down at COMEX to bring you the latest and greatest deals, so keep your eyes on this page! Of course, it pays to head down yourself, as many brands conduct on-the-spot promotions for visitors throughout the whole exhibition.

See you at COMEX!
