#17 Catch the Northern Lights

The Northern Lights, or Aurora Borealis, appear when charged particles collide with atoms in the upper atmosphere; they come in various shades of green, pink, yellow, red and blue. The best time of the year to see this magical show is between September and March. Some places to catch the lights include the northern regions of Sweden, Norway and Canada, as well as Alaska, Greenland and Iceland. Look for organised Northern Lights tours in these regions.

Make sure to bring the right photo equipment to take good pictures of the lights, since they are probably too fast and too dim for camera phones and other point-and-shoot devices.
