YOUR FRIENDS' ACTIVITY

Is this the worst-ever NDP song?

Over the years, there may have been a few duds but this one may just take the cake.

Imaginatively titled the "Fun Pack Song", this year's National Day Parade (NDP) ditty about -- what else but free goodie bags -- was to have been performed as part of this year's line-up.

But the song -- which is a rip-off of Lady Gaga's "Bad Romance" -- has been roundly criticised for both its lyrics and the fact that organisers failed to obtain rights to modify the lyrics of the Gaga hit.

Said chairman of the NDP show segment Colonel Ong Tze-Ch'in in a media statement, "We did not realise that the rights obtained (to perform the song in public) did not include rights to modify the lyrics of the song. We are currently working to rectify this."

A two-and-a-half-minute video of the song, shot during a recent rehearsal, has gone viral with over 47,000 views as of Wednesday morning.

A comment by Horrorflicked on YouTube went, "Please, please, please don't let them use this and show the world and let people see how stupid we are."

Others called it a "disgrace" and "unoriginal" while comparisons were also made with JJ Lin's Youth Olympic Games anthem "You are the One". Oh yeah, you know the one.

Watch the "Fun Pack Song" and compare.

    Lyrics of "Fun Pack Song"
    By: Haresh Sharma

    Oh o o o o o o o o
Time for the fun pack song
    Oh o o o o o o o o
We like the fun pack song

    Let's start with the bag
    That's right, grab your bag
    It's the fun pack bag
    Attack the fun pack

    (REPEAT)

Hold up your flag, don't you forget
You can wave it if you feel like it
    Let's wave the flag
    Wave wave wave
    Let's wave the flag
Take out your light stick, it's two of a kind
It's interactive, means you can join
    Just pretend
Oh oh oh... It's a disco

    (SPOKEN)

You know that I want you
And you know that I need you
I want a wet, wet tissue

I want Newater and I want a cold drink
You and me, let's share a bit
    I want a biscuit and I want a sweet
You and me, let's share this treat

    Kopi-O o o o o o o o o
Time for the fun pack song
    Kopi-O o o o o o o o o
We like the fun pack song

    Let's start with the bag
    That's right, grab your bag
    It's the fun pack bag
    Attack the fun pack

I want Newater and I want a cold drink
You and me, let's share a bit
    I want a biscuit and I want a sweet
You and me, let's share this treat

    Kopi-O o o o o o o o o
Time for the fun pack song
    Kopi-O o o o o o o o o
We like the fun pack song

    Let's start with the bag
    That's right, grab your bag
    It's the fun pack bag
    Attack the fun pack!

i am amazed and felt so shame about our country talents that such a national event we have to resort to use someone's song to re-modify lydric. you claimed to be first world nation and yet you copied such thing for national level.

i dont know what to say!!

it's not so much about copying, they cant even do it properly.... not getting the proper license and to top it up, cant even do it tastefully. The lyric are not suitable for a National Day Event!!!

that's what happen if you don't resort to FTs........now you have to learn the hard way.

if this song goes ahead and onto this year NDP i believe many singaporeans will be so ashamed of themselves. Please do not endorse this stupid and brainless change lyrics songs. Where are our talented song writer? whoever came out with this idea need to be fired. this is so disgraceful to Singaporeans.

does it matter? its just a song...after all i doubt us Singaporean can be anymore ridiculed and embarrassed. This will barely touch us. We have been the nation that has been bend over and Screwed by our own. If in e future someone ask me oh where are u from..I will reply currently residing in Singapore.

It's just a song... to celebrate the pride of a nation? Just a song indeed.

Agree. So ashamed to watch and listen to it

Please do not allow this song to be used for National Day or for any event in Singapore.

It is horrendous and the lyrics are unbecoming and nonsensical. If we have to be laughed at by the world, please let it be for a better reason than this. Even if we can sort out the legal rights associated with modifying the lyrics of this song, can we please drop this? This is an absolutely unmitigated disaster! I would be ashamed if I came up with this song for my kid's class concert. To think that this is to be used for celebrating National Day is quite frankly unthinkable....

This song makes me ashamed to be Singaporean. I have seen commercial jingles which are 1000 times better...... Totally speechless....
      • RJC 10 months ago
Maybe it's because the song writer's doing it for free and not for commercial usage which explains why it sucks so bad?

@#$%! It could've been some FTs writing and composing it LOL!
      • Teh Hong 10 months ago
Hi RJC, what about those that has been produced years ago. Are they paid in millions to write them? I believe they do it right from the heart and that is why it is especially good with superb quality.

        Some of my favourites include:
        1969: 5 Stars Arising
        1985: Stand Up for Singapore
        1986: Count on Me Singapore
        1987, 1988: We Are Singapore
1990: One People, One Nation, One Singapore
        1997: Home
        1999: Moments of Magic
        1999: Together
        2003: One United People
        2006: My Island Home

Take another look and listen to what we have in recent years.. ask ourselves where are we heading. Do we really need to produce a song every year for the sake of producing it?

I will pretend not to be a Singaporean for that day if somebody happen to ask me. I mean just for that day if they sing this song. This is too much to take, sorry.

In line with MG Chan's calling, I have a good idea to offer. Why don't we give local musical talents a chance next year? Organize a "NDP Song Writing Competition" to select the best locally written NDP song. Let's see how much our government can listen to constructive ideas. If you agree that this is a constructive and do-able idea, please kee chiu, fellow Singaporeans!

Shame on the head of the organization community who APPROVES the writting and performance of this song.
      What are they thinking?
National Day Celebration not Comedy Night.
I hope Lady Gaga sues your sorry arses for using her song and in such tasteless and unclass manner.

A disgrace to the whole of Singapore.

Colonel One :' We did not realize that the right obtained did not include the rights to modify the lyrics of the song .....' This statement shows how ignorant our high ranking military officer is. We don't need a legal expert to know this simple knowledge.

This may going to be one of the elitist candidates offered in the next election to run the country. Stand up for Singapore and sit down to watch a good show.
    • SG  •  10 months ago
what a disgrace, is this a short cut way of doing thing for Singapore birthday, just for the sake of completing the job......please scrap it. I rather celebrate without song if organisor has run out of idea
    • Angry Bird  •  10 months ago
Worse song ever hear. Treating us like kopi-o people, yet the feeling of waving our national flag is not one pribe to do so, rather just one feel like it only. There is no true meaning in this.

Get your bag ????? what bag ??? Body Bag ????

"I want a biscuit and I want a sweet" - Sound like communism idealist and dictators phrase.

one big comment for this song "GET YOR BAG AND ZIP YOURSELF IN IT"
