Color of the Year for 2012: Tangerine Tango

Tangerine Tango has been hailed Color of the Year 2012

Color forecasting firm Pantone has declared Tangerine Tango as the defining shade for 2012 in a report released December 8.

For more than a decade, the company has selected its Color of the Year, influencing product development and purchasing decisions in multiple industries including fashion, home, and beauty.

2012's shade, PANTONE® 17-1463 Tangerine Tango, is a reddish orange shade, described by the brand as "vivacious" and "enticing."

"Sophisticated but at the same time dramatic and seductive, Tangerine Tango is an orange with a lot of depth to it," explained Pantone's executive director Leatrice Eiseman.

The color looks set to play a key role in fashion and beauty trends for next year; being favored by creators including Tommy Hilfiger, Cynthia Steffe, Elie Tahari, Adrienne Vittadini and Nanette Lepore for their Spring 2012 lines.

Concerning cosmetics, it was first reported December 7 that Pantone is teaming with French cosmetics brand Sephora for the very first  SEPHORA + PANTONE UNIVERSETM limited edition collection. Available in US Sephora stores as of March 2012, the line will include eye shadow, lipstick, lip gloss, nail polish and accessories.

"These products allow for on-trend, uninhibited expression, while being exceptionally wearable," Sephora PRO's lead artist Gilbert Soliz explained.

"Whether she is looking to create a bold look featuring Tangerine Tango, or if demure trend expression is more her style, the collection allows for customized wearability."

Other fashion items available in Tangerine Tango include garments by bridesmaid dress manufacturer Dessy and a messenger bag created for Pantone by Rickshaw of San Francisco.
