Games company Capcom targets success in Russia, South Africa, India, more

"By next year we're looking to do voiceovers in languages of 5 to 7 countries, and have in-game text translated into 13-15 languages," said Capcom director Katsuhiko Ichii during an internal interview.

Citing the Resident Evil and Street Fighter series as examples of successful exports, Ichii indicated that sensitivity to cultural tastes was something that should affect game content.

And while citing Russia, Eastern Europe, South Africa, India and the Middle East as markets into which Capcom has been able to expand, Ichii acknowledged the importance of localizing games where possible, despite the fact that standard practice had been to provide voiceovers in English only.

However, despite the acclaimed Ace Attorney series' status among players and reviewers alike, Ichii didn't appear too hot on its prospects as a blockbuster outside of Japan.

"Games like Ace Attorney and Sengoku Basara have captivated the hearts of countless fans across Japan, but that doesn't necessarily mean they'll enjoy the same response or do as well in other countries."
