Netizens criticised Jackie Chan's lip service
21 Jan – Action superstar Jackie might have won a lot of fans in South Korea, but at the same time angered Chinese netizens with his light-hearted proclamation about being half Korean.
As reported on ECNS, on 18 January, during an appearance at a promotional event for his latest action flick, "Police Story 2013", the actor disclosed that the country had helped him during the worst period of his life.
Jackie expressed his gratitude for their support by saying, "I am half Korean now, and this country is my other home."
However, the seemingly innocent statement was received with many criticisms back home in China, and netizens even accused the actor for trying to win South Korean audiences' hearts so they would watch the film.
Meanwhile, the movie had a commendable reception in Hong Kong, earning HKD 200,000 (approx. USD 25,780) on the opening day, while it made RMB 500 million (USD 82.7 million) in its first three weeks in mainland China.
