Salary review committee submits report to PM Lee

The committee that was convened to review Singapore’s ministerial salaries has submitted its report to Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong on Friday, reported Channel NewsAsia (CNA).

Its chairman, National Kidney Foundation and Changi General Hospital chairman Gerard Ee, confirmed this on Friday, with added understanding on the part of local media that the report will be made public early next month.

Several members of parliament have also told CNA that the report is likely to be tabled in Parliament next month, with two possible sessions to be held — one on 9 January, having already been announced by the Clerk of Parliament, and the other a week later.

PM Lee pledged earlier this year that his government would adopt the recommended and revised bases and salary levels from the day they took office on 21 May.

In the process of the committee’s review, Ee and his seven panel members, who represented the private sector, labour movement and social sector, gathered a combination of recommendations from members of the public, civil servants and members of parliament over the course of this year.

Figures released by the Public Service Division show that the annual salary of an entry-grade minister was S$1.57 million while the Prime Minister's salary was S$3.04 million in 2009.
