Earth Hour, the international ground-up event that aims to spread awareness on conservation by turning lights off all over the world between 8:30 and 9:30pm on a specific day, will be happening once again this Saturday evening. And Singapore will be taking centre stage.

If you’ve taken the pledge for the four key actions, you’re one of the people who are “using your power” to make a difference — something that is of great emphasis for organisers WWF Singapore this year.

WWF wants you to “Use Your Power” to save and conserve energy usage in Singapore, and help reduce the country’s pretty-large per-capita carbon footprint. You can help by, among others, taking shorter showers, turning air-conditioning one degree up, using LED lighting and using fewer plastic bags.

“Earth Hour is a movement that is driven by the power of the civic society and the ordinary man on the street,” said WWF Singapore CEO Elaine Tan. “With the collective power of each person in Singapore, we can all help drive the positive change and be the ambassador of sustainability.”

With key dignitaries like WWF International’s Director-General-designate Marco Lambertini, as well as Singapore’s chief negotiator for climate change Ambassador Burhan Gafoor, due to attend, the stakes are high for this Saturday’s event — in particular with the addition of the stars of The Amazing Spider-Man 2 Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, Jamie Foxx and director Marc Webb.

Excited yet? Make plans to witness the now-iconic Marina Bay skyline turning pitch-black this Saturday. The festivities will start from 5pm onwards at The Float @ Marina Bay — you’ll be treated to performances by the Lumen Dancers, Samba Masala, the Invincible Diamonds Cheerleaders and other local acts, and get to help generate electricity on special Energy Floors too. Admission is free.
