Man who killed 4 in CTE accident identified

[UPDATED 16 August 11:00AM: Added name of driver responsible for deaths]

The man behind the wheel of the car that killed four in a tragic crash last week in Singapore has been identified as Toh Cheng-Yang, 34, according to The New Paper on Friday.

Toh was driving the Honda Stream that rammed into another car along the Central Expressway, causing the deaths of Amron Ayoub, his Korean girlfriend Jamie Song and the latter’s parents.

The accident happened in the early morning hours of National Day.

Amron, 23, died of multiple injuries in hospital, reported local media. Song and her parents were killed on the spot, apparently after they got out of their Toyota Wish which had blown a tyre and was parked on the road shoulder.

Jamie's brother, who was driving the car, was fortunate to escape unscathed as he was standing beside the car, rather than behind it when he got out, reported The Straits Times.

Photos of Amron's car on Chinese daily Shin Min Daily News showed it was a mangled wreck. The back of the car was completely crushed and ripped apart from behind.

SCDF earlier told Yahoo! Singapore they received a call at 3:56am and dispatched two ambulances to the scene.

A Malay male in his 20s was the front seat passenger while the other three passengers were sitting at the back, they said.

The three passengers at the back were pronounced dead at the scene, while Amron was sent to Khoo Teck Puat hospital where he later died of injuries.

The accident occurred on the CTE towards the Seletar Expressway just before Yio Chu Kang slip road exit. It was reported that the party of five were on their way to the airport.

Toh was arrested for dangerous driving and his licence suspended, according to police. He had initially complained of chest and head pain when attended to by SCDF personnel.

Toh was later released on bail, according to local media.

According to TNP, Toh lives with his elderly parents in an HDB flat in northern Singapore.
