New Turf City landlord planning to revive mall

Cogent Land Capital, the new landlord of Turf City (pictured), is eager to start its tenancy on a fresh note, following a month-long dispute with former master tenant, Singapore Agro Agricultural.

The company plans to revive the shopping complex, after some shoppers said it had become a "ghost town".

Benson Tan, Director at Cogent Land Capital, emphasised that it is business as usual at Turf City and that sub-tenants are not required to vacate the area during renovation, which will commence next week. The mall is expected to be fully operational by June.

"Areas undergoing renovation will be boarded up and we will do our best to minimise inconvenience to tenants and shoppers," said Tan.

"We will resume the shuttle bus service which will take shoppers to Turf City from Toa Payoh and Clementi. The first thing we will do is to activate cleaning services, pest control and security."

Tan revealed that the renovated Turf City will provide more food and beverage options, including Japanese, Spanish, French and Italian cuisine.

Meanwhile, two additional restaurant operators have already been confirmed — Ristorante Da Valentino and TungLok Group will each occupy over 10,000 sq ft of space.

Cogent earlier announced that Turf City will be the centre of a new "family lifestyle development" brought together under one roof and named The Grandstand.

Sulian Tan-Wijaya, Senior Director of Retail and Lifestyle at Savills Singapore, the development's sole marketing agent, said the site had received strong interest from established operators from various business segments, including retail, F&B, sports, wellness and even art galleries.
