SINGAPORE — Two persons died in a traffic accident at the junction of Woodlands Avenue 9 and Woodlands Avenue 4 on Thursday morning (1 September).

The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) added in a statement that nine others were taken to Khoo Teck Puat Hospital, after it was alerted of the accident at about 6.10am.

"A person was pronounced dead at the scene by an SCDF paramedic," it said.

According to Chinese daily Lianhe Zaobao, two of those sent to hospital were seriously injured. CNA later reported that a 53-year-old female passenger subsequently died in hospital.

Photographs of the accident posted on Facebook showed a yellow Honda Civic car crashing into the body of a Tower Transit bus. The car's front was crumpled against the side of the bus, and two police tents were set up beside it.

Tower Transit said there were eight passengers on board the bus when the accident happened. All eight passengers and the bus driver were taken to the hospital. The bus operator told The Straits Times it will check on their well-being and assist with medical claims.

“Our bus captain is in a stable condition and will be relieved of all duties while a police investigation is being conducted,” the operator said.

“Tower Transit Singapore sends its deepest condolences to the family of the deceased. We would also like to thank the members of the public who rendered immediate assistance to our passengers and bus captain.”

Police said investigations are ongoing.
