14-Year-Old Driver Killed, 3 Other Kids Seriously Injured When Speeding Car Crashes Into Trees

The roof of a police patrol car at night, with the blue and red lights flashingA 14-year-old boy died and three others were seriously injured in New York’s Clinton County early Sunday morning after the teen crashed the car he was driving unlicensed.
The boy, from Rouses Point, was speeding down Depot Street just after 1:45 a.m. local time when he lost control of the 2011 Honda Ridgeline while going around a turn, according to a news release from New York State Police.
The pickup truck collided with multiple trees before coming to a stop, and the teen driver was later pronounced dead at the scene.
Three other young people — a 14-year-old boy from Mooers, a 12-year-old girl from Mooers and a 13-year-old girl from Champlain — were seriously injured in the crash, NYSP said.
Police said the injured kids were eventually transported to the University of Vermont Medical Center in Burlington and were listed in stable but critical condition.
In a statement, Northeastern Clinton Middle School principal Tom Brandell said two of the students, including the student who died, attended the local high school, according to NBC affiliate WPTZ. The two others were students at the middle school, he added.

Counseling has been made available in the school district following the deadly crash, according to the principal. “During this challenging time, we are committed to supporting our school community," he said.
An autopsy will be performed Tuesday on the 14-year-old killed in Sunday's crash, per the reports.
