15-year-old driver charged in April collision that killed 16-year-old passenger in Saskatoon

A 15-year-old boy has been charged with dangerous driving causing death after an April crash that killed a 16-year-old boy in Saskatoon.

Police were called around 6 a.m. on April 14 to a single-vehicle collision in the 4200 block of Taylor Street E.

Investigators say the 15-year-old was driving a 2008 Honda Civic when he lost control of the car, which crashed into a pole and flipped over.

The 16-year-old boy, who was one of two passengers in the car, was declared dead at the scene. The other passenger, another 15-year-old boy, was sent to hospital in serious condition, police said at the time.

The 15-year-old driver suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

In addition to dangerous driving causing death, he's now been charged with taking a motor vehicle without consent and dangerous driving causing bodily harm, Saskatoon police said in a Wednesday news release.

He appeared in court earlier Wednesday, police said.

The teen cannot be named under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

The 16-year-old who was killed was a student at Evan Hardy Collegiate in Saskatoon, the Saskatoon Public Schools board previously said.
