17-year-old girl among five arrested in Singapore for drug transactions using chat app
About $71,000 worth of drugs and weapons were seized in operations conducted by Central Narcotics Bureau
SINGAPORE — A 17-year-old girl was the youngest among five individuals arrested in Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB) operations on Wednesday evening (27 September) for suspected drug transactions through a chat application.
During the operations, a total of about 204 grams of "Ice", 143 grams of cannabis, 12 Ecstasy pills, 12 grams of ketamine, one bottle of liquid substance believed to be controlled drugs, cash amounting to $3,600 and various drug paraphernalia were seized.
The drugs seized are estimated to be worth about $71,000.
The 17-year-old girl was arrested alongside a 21-year-old man in a housing unit along Jurong West Street 93.
Several weapons were also seized during the raid, with CNB officers having to forcefully enter the flat as the suspects refused to comply with orders to open the door.
Three others nabbed in Boon Lay
The same evening, an 18-year-old boy was also arrested from a flat along Boon Lay Avenue. He was later escorted by officers to his vehicle in a nearby multi-storey carpark.
A total of about 121g of Ice, 95g of cannabis, 3 Ecstasy pills, one bottle of liquid substance believed to be controlled drugs, a digital weighing scale and drug paraphernalia were recovered.
Earlier on Wednesday afternoon, CNB officers arrested a 20-year-old man and a 19-year-old girl at a flat along Boon Lay Drive.
A total of $3,600 worth of cash was seized from the unit, after CNB officers forcefully entered the flat.
The man was escorted to his vehicle in a nearby open carpark. A total of about 83g of Ice, 48g of cannabis, 12g of ketamine, nine Ecstasy pills, a knuckle duster and a knife were recovered from his vehicle.
Investigations by CNB and police ongoing
The five people were arrested after investigations were conducted on people who had bought drugs via a chat application, said CNB Intelligence Division deputy director, Chang Gim Fook.
"Drug offenders who think that such chat applications would enable them to transact anonymously cannot be more wrong," said Chang.
Investigations into the drug activities of all arrested suspects are ongoing.
The Singapore Police Force is also investigating the 20-year-old and 21-year-old men, both of whom were found in possession of scheduled weapons.
