SINGAPORE — Close to 18kg of heroin, 261g of ‘Ice’ and 2g of ‘Ecstasy’ tablets were seized at the Woodlands Checkpoint, the authorities said on Friday (20 May).

Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA) officers foiled the smuggling attempt of the drugs in a Malaysia-registered car on Wednesday, ICA and Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB) said in a joint statement.

The seizure of the drugs worth almost $1.3 million led to the arrests of three suspected male Malaysian drug offenders, aged between 23 and 28, at multiple locations by CNB on Wednesday and Thursday.

In the first arrest, the 28-year-old Malaysian driver was arrested and referred to CNB for investigation after bundles of suspected drugs were found in the car boot.

The following day, CNB officers arrested two Malaysian men, who were suspected to be the intended recipients of the packages, around Bedok North Street 1.

Anyone who is convicted of trafficking more than 15g of pure heroin or 250g of methamphetamine, also known as “Ice”, may face the mandatory death penalty.
